It's hard to believe, but the end of 2024 is approaching, and soon the C-Word will be upon us all. I adore this season, not only for the return of daily hot chocolate indulgence (although I didn't give it up entirely over the summer!) but also for the vibrant colours. As autumn arrives and the warm summer evenings fade, there's a certain freedom that comes with this change of season. The cool air brings a feeling of new opportunities and an essence of 'a fresh start'.
So, with that in mind what are the new and exciting colour trends we might see in the Interior World in 2025?
Let me start by saying that 'Trend' has always been a bit of a marmite term and I always steer my clients away from any trends that are almost certain to come and then fade quite quickly. Neon signs and jungle print, anyone? Sustainability and longevity in design should be key.
That being said, trends are also a bit of fun and are there to inspire us when we do decide to refresh our homes which in turn helps spark joy!
So let's jump in! Dulux have gone ahead and released their Colour of the Year for 2025 already, placing 'Pure Joy' as the leader of the pack. Yes it's yellow and yes I love it. It's a punchy sunshine-from-within colour that I predict will be big in bedrooms and hallways in 2025 both on walls, ceilings and in accessories.
Fashion and Interiors are intrinsically linked, with each consistently inspiring and linking the other in a continuous cycle in terms of fabrics, patterns and colours and so let's take a look into London Fashion Week 24/25. Pantone have released their London Fashion Week 24/25 AW Trend Report.
As you can see, earthy, bold and deep colours are on the menu with yellow and orange undertones warming-up some of the hues. You will notice that yellow features again here, so it's safe to say it's truly going to have it's moment next year. If you're an earthy colour lover like me, then the aubergine, forest and moss-like greens and browns should make you very happy! Creamy whites with heated up beige bring some neutrality whilst cherry tomato red and ethereal blue add a playful element to the mix.
So how might these colours translate into our homes?
Iguana is described by Pantone as "a versatile aboreal green that underscores our appreciation of nature".
Green became popular around 2020 as we found ourselves confined to our homes and yearning for moments of peace and tranquillity. Its popularity continues to grow, with different shades consistently remaining popular. This shade of green has a hint of yellow, giving it a warm, inviting and cosy feel. It would work well in living rooms, home offices, bedrooms for linens, and lamps.
Eggplant - "a distinctly defined purple with a tasteful aura". It is no secret that i've been a huge fan of purple in interiors for a while. A bold colour like purple may seem like a brave choice but for me personally, it feels like a timeless classic. I painted our kitchen snug in Victorian Lilac by Valspar and it's such an uplifting, calming and refreshing space. I anticipate a rise in the use of purple in dining areas, hallways, and bathrooms next year.
According to Pantone, Sheepskin is a "softened, warm beige filled with ease and comfort" and I can't help but agree. This versatile neutral shade can be combined with rich tones like chocolate or mocha for a luxurious feel, or paired with mustard yellow and raspberry for a more playful look. Add in exposed wood for a more relaxed, natural feel.
So, it looks like the year 2025 is set to embrace a vibrant and daring color palette like never before. This upcoming trend suggests a departure from cooler and muted tones and a shift towards bold and lively hues that promise to inject energy and excitement into our surroundings. However you imagine these colours in your spaces, the colour spectrum in 2025 is expected to be a celebration of diversity and individuality.
What do you think about these specific colour trends? Do you adore them or detest them? Would you consider incorporating any of them into your home? I'd love to know!
